From the backlog:

Gah! I haven't been updating! Here's a swath of recordings: This is one from 2006. Ryan McCormick and Ellis also play on it. It was written as a score for a puppet show by Maggie Winston.

Do you want to know a secret?

Cailtin, Ellis, and I recorded this last Saturday. It's by the Beatles, of course.

Musical Exquisite Corpse

Dan Toews and Christopher Ellis began a musical exquisite corpse project last year. Here is my contribution:

Before my head exploded

Some of the last recordings I did before my head exploded:

Tableaux Recs

Tableaux Recs (2005)

http://tableauxrecs.bandcamp.com/

Tableaux Recs was a band comprised of Alexandra Krakus, Ellis, Sean T Ramsay, and Wes Knight.
I really, really like these recordings.  We spent a week or two getting together over coffee and making these songs.
My singing is missing in parts because we made these recordings as backing tracks for a show at the Media Club that Alex couldn't play.  I sang my songs live, but Alex pre-recorded vocals to go along with a cardboard cut-out of her that Ellis had made as a stand-in.

Some guitar noodling led to this a few minutes ago.

Bad Apple

We recorded a version of the Apollo Ghosts' "Bad Apple" for a Safe Amplification Site Society PSA a couple of years ago.

Meadows

I recorded this in 2008 in my room at Castle In The Clouds in Montreal on a wobbly cassette 4-track machine.

The Precipice on Lakewood

I had the blues on Lakewood. Social media blues. Mould blues. Carbon monoxide blues. Sex tub blues. Pneumonia blues. Silver sex wagon blues. Jay's blues. Corrupt Buddhist monks blues. 7-Eleven blues. Greasy smell in the air on hot days blues. Syringes near the garage door blues.

Dan, Ellis, and Sean - Please Please Me

I've been listening to a lot of old Beatles songs lately. They have a safety blanket quality to them; when things seem weird, sometimes a Beatles song can make everything right.
I went over to Dan and Ellis' today and we recorded this song over Drambuie and mahscronge.

Subcutaneous Lovesick Hues

We recorded this strange little song at Chris Westendorf's house in 2005.
Singing is comedian Dylan Rhymer. He and I worked together at a cafe that summer.
Ellis and I were playing in a Bob Dylan cover band at the time. Dylan had written his own lyrics to Subterranean Homesick Blues and he asked if we would like to record his version with him sometime. This is the result.

Inky Scratches

Sleep Away The Aging (2010)

http://inkyscratches.bandcamp.com/

Inky Scratches is Aaron McHattie, Christopher Ellis, and me. Sleep Away The Aging is a jam session that Ellis recorded for posterity in May 2010. It ended up being a nice performance, so here it is, complete with cover art by Jarrett Evan Samson.

Apostrophe (2011)

As of the week ending January 10th, 2012, Slight Birching's Apostrophe is sitting at #24 on the CiTR 101.9 FM charts. Great news. Every goal has been accomplished and we can now ride off into the epic sunsets of our golden years.
At first the band consisted solely of myself and a guitar, but over the years it has seen a good many merry musician come and go; in early 2009 Chris Martell (bass) and Jarrett Samson (drums) joined up for a few shows, and in 2011 the group expanded to a 7-piece with the additions of Adrienne (violin), Ridley (bass), Ellis (synth or drums), Kevin (drums), Enzio (guitar), and Daniel (drums). Adrienne and I toured Europe as Slight Birching in late 2011. Here's a review of our tour kick-off show by Fraser Dobbs of Discorder: http://discorder.ca/discorder-magazine/index.php/2011/11/16/slight-birching/

Unreliable Narrator is myself and Caitlin Gilroy (Brave Irene, Organ Trail, Loose Tights). We formed in 2007 as a folk duo because it was easier and cheaper to ride our bikes to gigs with acoustic instruments than drive or hire cabs.
With the purchase of a minivan in 2009 we added more amps and more musicians and toured North America with Chris Martell on drums. After we returned from tour we incorporated Christopher Ellis into the band on synthesizer and sometimes drums.
Here's us with Ellis on CiTR in late 2009:  http://playlist.citr.ca/podcasting/audio/20091105-221000-to-20091105-230100.mp3
Scotia Gilroy, Enzio Verster, Chris-a-riffic, Adrienne LaBelle, Jeff Johnson, Pietro Sammarco, Ryan McCormick, Joseph Hirabayashi, Patrick Geraghty, Adam Horn, Jessica Wilkin, Kristine Aguilar, and Adrian Teacher have also played a few shows with us.
